Business that pay little or no business rates
A one off grant is being provided to businesses based in England, who are small, occupy a property and already receiving Small Business Rates Relief, rural rate relief or tapered relief; this grant is to help businesses meet ongoing running costs. The business has to be on the rating list as of 11 March 2020.
Local authorities are handling this scheme and each local authority seem to be approaching the administration of this scheme in different ways.
Wakefield Council are now open to applications, click the following page link to find the link to the form and I am advised that you should have your business rates bill ready:
The Council advise that there will be high demand so please be patient and once your application is submitted, should they require additional information, they will contact you on the details provided. Further they say if your business is facing further hardship, please visit their website or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
For retail, hospitality and leisure businesses
Follow the same link for the grant and read the above information for businesses with little or no business rates. Those with a RV below £15,000 will get £10,000 grant and those over £15,000 will get a £25,000 grant, up to a rateable value of £50,999. I addition you have a business rates holiday.
Properties that will be covered those that are wholly or mainly being used for the following:
• as shops, restaurants, cafes, drinking establishments, cinemas and live music venues
• for assembly and leisure
• as hotels, guest and boarding premises and self-catering accommodation
